Satake Nashiji Santoku Japanese Kitchen Knife 17 cm - Versatile Knife for Chopping, Slicing, and Dicing!

Discover the Satake Nashiji Santoku 17 cm Japanese Kitchen Knife, a real all-rounder for your kitchen! This versatile knife is the perfect companion for everyday cooking, whether you're chopping fresh vegetables, slicing fine meats, or even preparing fish. The special recurved edge makes precise chopping easier, whilst the broad blade offers a handy aid for scooping up and transferring your chopped ingredients with ease. Thanks to the comfortable, raised handle, your fingers remain safe and never touch the chopping board or the food, allowing you to work confidently and comfortably whilst cooking.

The santoku (三德) knife boasts a rich heritage, with its origins tracing back to distant Japan, to the Showa era (1926-1989). Changing dietary habits, increased red meat consumption, and the rise of Western cuisine gave rise to this versatile knife type. The direct predecessor of the santoku was the bunka knife, which itself was born from the ideal fusion of the traditional gyuto (chef's knife) and nakiri (vegetable knife).

The name "santoku" refers to the knife's three outstanding areas of use, in which it performs exceptionally well:

  • Slicing: The blade of the Satake Nashiji Santoku knife is excellently suited for slicing meats, fish, and vegetables thinly and evenly. The ideal blade length of 17 cm provides a perfect balance between precision and manoeuvrability for most ingredients.
  • Dicing: The straight edge of the santoku knife allows for exceptionally precise and clean dicing, whether it's vegetables or other ingredients.
  • Chopping: The characteristic shape and optimal weight of the blade significantly facilitate the quick and efficient chopping of vegetables, spices, and herbs.

It's for this reason that the santoku knife is often referred to as the "knife of three virtues," alluding to these three main functions. This high-quality Japanese kitchen knife took the world by storm at the end of the 20th century, and today has become an indispensable tool in both professional and home kitchens. Choose the Satake Nashiji Santoku knife for its versatility, comfort, and the perfection of Japanese craftsmanship!
